The 2nd Hugo Alfvén International Conducting Competition will take place from 11–15 August 2026 in Falun, Sweden, in collaboration with the professional chamber orchestra Dalasinfoniettan.
This competition offers a unique format designed to support artistic growth rather than elimination. Over four days, selected participants will take part in an intensive masterclass with conductor Claire Levacher, combining theoretical sessions and practical work with a professional orchestra.
The event concludes with a final concert, where a jury of conductors and orchestra members evaluates the participants and selects one winner.
Why This Conducting Competition is Different
Unlike traditional competitions, there are no elimination rounds. Instead, all selected candidates collaborate, learn, and develop together throughout the program.

Eligibility

Conducting Competition Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Recent photo
- CV + personal letter
- Video recording (20 minutes total):
- 15 min rehearsal
- 5 min concert
- Ensemble of at least 12 musicians
- Copy of passport
Only recordings after 1 January 2022 are accepted.
