Wiener Staatsoper History & Development
Founded in 1854 at the Kärntnertor Theatre, the orchestra has undergone several structural changes throughout its history, including wartime relocations. From 1972 to 1999, it was known as the Stage Orchestra of the Austrian Federal Theatres. Since 1999, it has operated under the Vienna State Opera. Recent leadership includes Witolf Werner and Markus Henn.
